Rest In Peace - A Tribute to Maharani Gayatri Devi
“The soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone.” ~Johann von Goethe
When we get to know about stories and tales of those gorgeous Indian queens and princess in legends we often ponder if they really existed. That’s when an image of Maharani Gayatri Devi comes in front you, and you know its true indeed. She is extensively believed to be the most stunning Indian woman. The beautiful legacy came to an end this Wednesday (July 29th 2009).
Gayatri Devi, the graceful ex- princess of Cooch Behar who acquired the place of a Maharani of Jaipur, was chosen by the famous fashion magazine -Vogue as one of the world’s most beautiful women, and was a most wanted choice of photographers and society columnists.
My memoirs of Gayatri Devi date back to my 4 years’ long stay in Jaipur while completion of my education. When I moved to Jaipur to study, most of my peers were from the famous ‘Maharani Gayarti Devi School’ (Better known as MGD). At that time, I was hardly receptive to the grandeur and opulence of this beautiful Queen. It was at an inauguration function of an art exhibition, where I first got to take a distant look at the stunning beauty of Her Highness. At prime of her life, she still had looks which would engage anyone’s eye and could leave the viewer spell bound and speechless. Everyone dies one day or the other, but there are very few who truly live. MGD was surely one of them.
Her demise is a conclusion of a magnificent royal epoch episode in India. May her soul rest in Peace.
