Rakhi Sawant’s Swayamwar – Instant way to Hall of Fame

This is an era of Reality TVs getting instantaneous fame and TRPs, where Raj Thackeray establishes the supremacy of violence by astutely putting it in front of TV cameras, Shri Ram Sene, is given complete media coverage to demonstrate brutality on women in front of the world, Jarnal Singh, hurls away a shoe at PC, Varun Gandhi boldly utters a hate speech to all of a sudden get an entrée on the screen, while his name is a part of the most hottest debates. These are only a few ways via which, instant fame is only a step away, if you indulge into some controversial drama in public. Similarly, life can be sold on Reality TV too. We all know about how Jade Goody has sold her death to a Reality TV, for a cause which might mean the world to her.

Not left behind in the league is now, Rakhi Sawant who has recently been heard of planning her own “swayamvara” (selecting a groom to marry) - where else? But on a Reality TV show. Rakhi will select from among 15 men on a new show, apparently called “Rakhi Ka Swayamvara and will seek assistance from the audience to pick her Mr.Perfect. She has also told the media that that all her “fans” will help her choose her groom. ( I sometimes wonder about the Kahitan Fans, these Payal Rohatgi and Rakhi Sawants boast about- Where are they?). Her requirements are – Warm, loving, chivalrous, and punctual and above all a dancer. ( Non dancer- Don’t even think about it!). I am yet to come to the most amusing part, btw. She has compared herself to the legendary Sita from Ramayana. She claims- “If Sita can do it, why not Rakhi Sawant”.

Evidently, sustaining your identity in news is not simple, given that janta has deciphered how effortless it is to become prominent. These visual fanatics are, definitely here to stay and we will keep watching them.

I guess the simplest way to become a bigwig in India is to say or do something very confrontational, very noisily, very frequently. In a flash, you are on TV- a Super Star and a news maker. Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India.

After all, If Sita can do it, why not Rakhi?!

I don't know about fame she is going to get out of this. For this one reality show alone I am going to stop watching NDTV imagine. There imagination has gone a little over my taste. Even if I have to delete that channel to avoid those ads of "paise waala ho to kya bura"

Hey Apurva

Ditto on your views about this program. The saying "Money doesn't buy class" is applicable with this Drama Queen!
