Bareily based Daarul-Ifta-Manjar-e-Islam has issued a Fatwa against Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for having attended Ganesh puja with hundreds of other devotees at the famous Raja Ganpati Mandal in Mumbai on Wednesday. Claiming that Islam prohibits all kinds of idol worship, the organization has mandated that Salman read the Kalmas all over again to be once again considered a Muslim.
When he tied Rakhi by her Hindu sister in Jodhpur Jail this year then what happened to the Muslim community? Salman’s mother (Salma) was a hindu, who later converted to Islam. Helen is a catholic, Sohiel’s wife (Seema) is hindu, Arbaaz’s wife (Malaika) is a Punjabi. Salman;s adopted sister Arpitha is hindu.
A new wave of prudishness is washing over India. It's striking the country's prosperous technology capitals and has led to Fatwas and campaigns against India's most popular celebrities.
Remember how Taslima Nasreen, the Bangladesh-born writer, and a self-described radical feminist, human rights activist and a secular humanist currently living in exile in India, was roughed up at a Hyderabad Press Club meeting?. Activists of Majlis Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (MIM) including local MLAs (members of legislative assembly) threw chairs and footwear at her, shouting threatening slogans and calling her an enemy of Islam.
Then not to miss out here is Sania, who became the first Indian woman tennis player to enter the fourth round of a Grand Slam at the US Open in September, was in the eye of a storm when, just days later, a little-known Muslim religious scholar asked her to change her dress code while playing tennis tournaments. A fatwa follows again!
Oh, I forgot we have a woman president. What do you say about these fatwas Mrs. President? Why haven’t we heard you condemn the clerics yet? Yes, you’re the first woman president. Yes, it is a big honor to the women of this country. But we already know all that.
My question is that is India really free after celebrating 60 years of Independence? The Indian dream was to unite an even more diverse body of ethnicities, languages, castes, cultures and religions, to mold a country built on the ideals of secular, liberal democracy. But are we liberated with these Fatwas which are issued in the name of religion so often?
Plus I don’t get this idea of anyone’s religious ideology trumping the country’s constitution. Doesn’t matter if that ideology is Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi or Jew. And if anyone indeed has a problem with someone like Ms. Nasreen speaking about something, haul Ms. Nasreen to court, sue her, and prove in a democratic and a legal way that whatever she’s doing is harmful and insulting to a religious group. Or it could be Salman for offering his prayers to Lord Ganesha or Sania Mirza for wearing skimpy clothes
All religions basically exhort mankind to be righteous and eschew evil. But Islam goes beyond that. It guides us towards practical ways of achieving righteousness and eliminating evil from our individual and collective lives. Islam takes into account human nature and the complexities of human society. Islam is guidance from the Creator Himself. Therefore, Islam is also called the Deen-ul-Fitrah (the natural religion of Man). But these Fatwas don’t reflect these ideologies of Islam.I have Muslim friends too. Infact I adrees my friend Abid Hussain’s parents as Ammi and Abbu therefore I respect Islam.and the Love it teaches. However because of a few fanatic minorities the whole community suffers.
Learn to understand the true meaning of religion and return back to its original meaning by practicing religion - with or without any name - anything that brings you BACK to God - anything that re-unites you with God that leads to union with God - is religion. Hence religion and spirituality is one and the same as the goal of true traditional original spirituality is to awake the spiritual truth within and ultimately to gain oneness with God.
A mere Fatwa cannot change your Faith in God.
I don’t aim to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments here .However we must all understand the meaning of Religion before we hit people’s sentiments in the name of a Fatwa. Its not about Islam or Hinduism or any other religion. Every religion has a common objective- Love that we must understand. Its ironical how so many religions teach Love yet they are the sole cause for a Communal War.
I wait to see a liberated India………………..

I wait to see a Liberal India too..
I just dont understand the Muslim community should be Proud that Sania Mirza was a part of grand slam instead of screaming over her skirt..
And if Salman went to a temple.. well here's something I have visited a dargah!! I dont see my fellow Hindu's screaming.. over it..
Its sad how things are.. all in the name of a few people who are too blind to see good in anything
